Some Republicans voted for the $1.2 trillion infrastructure measure that the House passed late on Friday, and they got hammered by their fellow Republicans on Saturday. Some progressive Democrats voted against the bipartisan bill, which ultimately passed 228-206 with support from Rep. Andrew Garbarino (R-NY) as one of 13 Republican vote yes.
House Republicans Who Backed Infrastructure Bill Face Vicious Backlash
Garbarino tweeted that the House was able to vote on the bipartisan infrastructure bill after being “kept hostage by Progressive Democrats” for months. “Let there be no doubt, the issues at stake in tonight’s vote were on infrastructure projects like new bridges and improved water systems. It was about real people and what Congress could do to improve their lives by fixing up our country’s ageing infrastructure.
The Bill is High on Vice President Joe Biden’s List of Domestic Initiatives.
He referred to the bill’s approval as “a huge step forward as a nation” on Saturday.
However, the Republicans who voted for the bill were afterwards heavily criticised, even by some of their own party members. Representative Lauren Boebert (R-Colorado) referred to her fellow Republicans as “RINOS” (Republicans in name only).
Boebert tweeted late on Friday night, “RINOS just passed this ridiculous $1.2 trillion dollar ‘infrastructure’ bill.” Without support from her own party members, Pelosi could not have allowed this nonsense to become law. Now is the time to expose these pretend Republicans and make them answer for their actions.
Illinois Republican Representative Mary Miller joined the online condemnation of her colleagues who supported the bill by labelling them “spineless” on Twitter.
Miller stated that 13 weak “Republicans” had teamed up with Democrats to pass their $5 TRILLION socialist takeover of the country, just three days after people rejected Biden’s failing plans in deep blue Virginia and New Jersey.
