‘Impeachment’ Review: A She Said, She Said Situation

This season’s instalment of Ryan Murphy’s American Crime Story examines the Clinton-Lewinsky scandal of the mid-1990s from the perspectives of Monica Lewinsky, the White House intern at the time who had an affair with President Bill Clinton, and Linda Tripp, a close friend and colleague of Lewinsky’s who secretly recorded their conversations about the affair.

The scandal that “led to the first impeachment of a US President” will be dissected and “explored in detail” in the upcoming American Crime Story, Impeachment, starring Sarah Paulson (Tripp) and Beanie Feldstein (Lewinsky) from Murphy’s Booksmart.

With a cast including Clive Owen, Edie Falco, Margo Martindale, Billy Eichner, and Cobie Smulders, as well as Paulson in extensive prosthetics as the late Pentagon staffer Tripp, there is a lot to look forward to in this FX series.

Star Beanie Feldstein revealed at the Television Critics Association press tour that Monica Lewinsky had a hand in “every word” and “every script page” of Impeachment, despite the fact that the show is based on Jeffrey Toobin’s book A Vast Conspiracy: The Real Story of the Sex Scandal That Nearly Brought Down a President.

Monica would read over the scripts with the producers and provide notes and suggestions, so she could rest assured that everything she said would be used in the final product. By the time it reached me, I knew that everything in it was authentic to her life and a true reflection of who she is.

When Will Impeachment Be Released? An American Crime Story?

More than a month after its U.S. launch, the series will make its UK debut on BBC Two on Tuesday, October 19 at 9:15 p.m.

The first episode of Impeachment: American Crime Story aired on FX in the United Kingdom on September 7 at 9 p.m., and subsequent episodes have aired every Tuesday at the same time.

After several delays due to COVID, filming on the Ryan Murphy drama finally began in October 2020. However, in December, work was halted due to the detection of coronavirus. After resuming in January, filming didn’t end until August.

There was substantial backlash when the US premiere was set for September 2020, just before the US election, because of fears that the show could impact voters’ opinions.

FX delayed the premiere of the third season to sometime in 2021, citing “long production” rather than election worries in their announcement made in early January 2020.

“Executive producer Ryan Murphy is, without a doubt, the hardest working man in the entertainment industry. and he won’t be ready to start filming until March 21 of this year,” Landgraf said to reporters at the Television Critics Association winter press tour. “In light of the lengthy production process, we won’t actually wrap up filming the episodes until October.

So, “I think we initially announced that we’d air in September, and I don’t think that’s reasonable, really, given that it won’t end production until October,” he said.

Like its predecessor, The Assassination of Gianni Versace, this episode of the anthology series will show on the BBC, though presumably some time after the episode premieres in the United States.

The American Crime Story-style Plot of Impeachment

The scandal between US President Bill Clinton, age 49, and Monica Lewinsky, age 22, will lead to Clinton’s impeachment (an intern at the White House).

According to FX, Monica Lewinsky herself will serve as executive producer of the drama Impeachment, which will examine “the national crisis that swept up Paula Jones, Monica Lewinsky, and Linda Tripp as main protagonists in the country’s first impeachment hearings in over a century.”

The show will depict the fallout of their affair, which began with a sexual harassment complaint (made by Paula Jones) against Clinton and escalated until he was impeached for perjury and obstruction of justice in 1998.

In a panel for the Television Critics Association’s press tour, actor Beanie Feldstein said that Monica Lewinsky had a hand in “every word” and “every screenplay page” of the show, suggesting that the new take on the event will come from Lewinsky’s, Tripp’s, and Jones’ points of view.

The show’s creators, Ryan Murphy and Sarah Burgess, had a private meeting with Lewinsky, and Burgess “added a couple of scenes that Monica told me about, and went over all of that with her to make it as true as possible” in episode two.

However, Burgess claims that neither the genuine Paul Jones nor Linda Tripp, who passed away in April 2020, were contacted before their deaths.

“To us, Monica has always possessed… There is nothing that can compare to working with her, and it was always made very clear that we would collaborate with her and discuss each page of the screenplay in detail “her words It’s as if in 1998 our society invented a new Monica Lewinsky who had no resemblance to the original.

British Actor Clive Owen has been Hired as President Bill Clinton in the Next American Crime Story Episode “Impeachment.”

Beanie Feldstein (Monica Lewinsky), Sarah Paulson (Linda Tripp), and Annaleigh Ashford (also from the original ACS) will all be appearing with him in the episode (Paula Jones). Ashford played Elizabeth Cote in The Assassination of Gianni Versace, while Paulson played Marcia Clark in The People v. O.J. Simpson. Billy Eichner, who also appeared in American Horror Story: Apocalypse, joins them.

Edie Falco, of The Sopranos fame, has been recruited as Hillary Clinton on American Crime Story: Impeachment, and Margo Martindale, who is known for her role as Lucianne Goldberg on the show, has also joined the cast.

Betty Gilpin (Judy from GLOW), who was supposed to play right-wing commentator Ann Coulter, had to withdraw out of the movie because of a scheduling conflict with COVID. “This is really bad. No one’s schedules could work together… I wasted my time on all those Ann Coulter audiobooks “to SlashFilm, she revealed.

Cobie Smulders of How I Met Your Mother stepped in to replace Gilpin, and she has a blonde wig similar to Coulter’s in the promotional materials.

Also appearing are Mira Sorvino as Monica Lewinsky’s mother Marcia Lewis, Dan Bakkedahl from Veep as Ken Starr, Joseph Mazzello from Bohemian Rhapsody as Paul Begala, Blair Underwood from Quantico as Vernon Jordan, Kevin Pollak as Bernie Nussbaum, and Patrick Fischler from The Right Stuff as Bernie Nussbaum.
