U.S. gymnast Jade Carey finished her Olympic career on a high note by taking home a bronze medal in her final event in Tokyo.
The 21-year-old from Arizona recovered from a scary fall in the vault final on Sunday to win the gold medal in floor exercise with a score of 14.366.

The U.S. women’s gymnastics team won their sixth medal of the Tokyo Games without their top performer, Simone Biles, who missed four finals to work on her mental health.
Though many were hoping for her to perform the triple-double layout—three twists and two flips while maintaining a straight body position—Carey instead delivered a faultless double-double that ensured her victory.
Although Jade Carey won the gold medal at the Olympic Games in floor exercise, her success in collegiate gymnastics was far from assured.
After all, she had new routines to learn and tumbling passes to consider keeping and which ones to “tone down” for the floor routine (since, compared to elite-level scoring, the NCAA focuses more on execution than difficulty).
